Isao Sato’s journey with Tagawa Greenhouses began in the 1980s when he came to Colorado for an internship, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for pansy breeding. Returning to Japan, he spent decades dedicated to perfecting the art of breeding, channeling his expertise and vision into creating truly distinctive pansy varieties. The result is the exquisite Antoinette collection—an offering he chose to share with Tagawa, honoring the deep connection formed during his early years here. These extraordinary pansies are known for their lavishly ruffled blooms, displaying an enchanting palette of pastel colors that range from soft whites and delicate pinks to sunny yellows and gentle purples. For both Mr. Sato and Tagawa, the Antoinette collection represents a remarkable full circle—a testament to collaboration, dedication, and the shared pursuit of beauty in the garden.

This wasn’t the only project Mr. Sato brought to life. His passion for breeding also led to the creation of the remarkable Twilight collection, where rich, saturated colors converge in a dramatic symphony of blooms. These pansies are a visual feast, with intricate, velvety textures and ruffled edges that evoke the elegance of a starry night. Deep blues, sultry reds, vibrant wine hues, and snowy whites intermingle seamlessly to create a mesmerizing display unlike anything else on the market. Colors included in the Twilight Collection: Blue, White, Wine, and Red

The feedback from the market of the two collections was to break out color varieties.  Our first color-specific variety in our lineup is the 'Dawn to Dusk' variety!  This selection takes inspiration from the Twilight Collection, but removes the reds and pinks from the mixture.  Dawn to Dusk still holds the double, ruffled characteristic, and captures the magic of a day’s sky in every bloom — glowing golden tones rise from the center like sunrise, melting into rich violet and twilight blue edges.
